Welcome to global warming winter! Or is it just a normal El Nino winter here in the north? My bet is on global warming. Just read today that scientists have announced we humans have caused so much change to the Earth that we have created a new epoch in geological history. Shame on us and our fossil fuels. This concerns me deeply. Before Christmas I heard reports that the cherry trees in Washington DC were starting to bud out as though it was spring. In NYC as well. All of this is about as unnatural as can be. Here in upstate New York it has been cold for only a week. Ice has formed on the ponds and there is a dusting of snow. I hate to say that I'm hoping for deep cold and real snow...but that is just what we need.
The photograph presented here was made in 1991. According to my records, Trees, marsh, fog, 1991, was made around Thanksgiving that year. Not January. It looks identical to our weather right now. The long range forecast for this winter up here is warm and dry. Is this it or will we see a sudden change to normal soon? Hope you enjoy this photograph. It was a beautiful moment in the fog in a very special place. I have always enjoyed looking at it but I hope it won't become an image of normal winter in the northeast.
